Easy-to-make Holiday Candle Centerpiece

This centerpiece can brighten a corner or make a great hostess gift.

If you can cut and glue, you can do this!!!

What you need:  White school glue, ribbon, three-ply holiday napkins, a sponge brush, sharp small scissors, iridescent glitter, a small grapevine wreath, a holiday floral pick, miscellaneous decorations,  a glue gun, a 6x6 inch square of waxed paper and a light weight paper plate.  Optional: florist wire and a wire cutter

Seperate the three plys of the napkin.  Keep the first layer from the back.  It will be glued to the candle.

Cut the design out.  If there is white, such as Santa's beard, let a little color show in that area so the white part of the design doesn't get visually lost when applied to the white candle.

Place the waxed paper on the paper plate.  The waxed paper keeps the candle from sticking to the paper plate. Using the sponge brush apply white glue to a small portion of the candle from top to bottom and place the back ply of the napkin on the candle.  Continue working around the candle, until completely covered with the tissue.  Once the tissue is all the way around, trim the excess tissue from the candle.
This step is done to help the glitter adhere to the candle, otherwise the glue beads on the candle causing parts of the candle to be without glue and glitter.

Apply the cut-out to the candle with with glue.  Then coat the candle again with more glue and pour the glitter over the side of the candle as you turn it.  Hold the wick to tilt the candle while applying glitter.  After this step is done, you can pour the glitter off of the waxed paper onto the paper plate.  Fold the plate in half and pour the glitter back into your glitter container.

Cut or pull the floral pick apart.  It is much prettier if you attach the pieces individually.  You may either attach the pieces to the grapevine wreath with florist wire or use a glue gun.

You don't need to completely cover the wreath.  Place your candle in it while you work on the wreath and it will help you decide the placement of your decorations.  Things placed randomly give a natural look to the design.  Use a little ribbon to fill in and add color. Too much ribbon can overpower the candle ring.

If you plan to put this in the center of a table, you can also put the design on the back of the candle.

Hint:  Instead of burning the candle all the way down, when it has been burned several times and is hallowed out about 2 inches, place a tea light inside.  By burning the tea light instead of the candle wick, you will be able to enjoy your candle for a long time!
