What Goes in a Party Box?

A party box?  Several years ago I started collecting things that would allow me to have a party "on-the- spot."  Have you ever found out at the last minute that a friend had a birthday or needed cheering up?  By having some inexpensive things in a box on a closet or pantry shelf you can have planned fun or an instant special occasion.  A legal file box works well for storage or a small plastic storage box with drawers that are found in discount stores.
If you shop after holidays you can also stock up on things for next year and get them at 50-75% off.  Dollar stores are a great source for year 'round parties.  They also have inflated helium baloons for a dollar each  instead of the $4-5 each at the grocery store or florist.
Watch for articles and pictures in magazines for creative ideas.  Clip them and put in a file in your party box.
Suggestions to get you started:
Birthday candles
Colorful napkins
Paper birthday plates, hats and blowers

A "you are special plate"

Small flags

Streamers

Party favors, poppers, etc. for children and adults

Small gifts for kids that are giftwrapped

Birthday and anniversary cards

Votive candles

Clear strings of lights that can be strung in trees, plants or with greenery down the center of a table

Have a few wrapped gifts on hand for adults:  soaps, stationary, chocolates, gourmet coffee or tea, mugs, etc.

If you have room in your freezer, you can keep a dessert that can be popped in the oven, or thawed quickly.  Ice cream works well, too, if you have toppings in your pantry.

I hope this inspires you to have some instant celebrations!
