Down Come the Decorations and the Soup is in the Crock Pot!

Taking down Christmas decorations can be overwhelming.  I always start with the live tree that we put up the day after Thanksgiving.  Home Depot recycles and chips them.  Next, the outdoor decorations come down because I want to be a good neighbor!

The bins that hold the holiday decorations have been storing the everyday decorations and they will be put in place as I pack up the Christmas things.  This is a good time to rethink your year 'round decorations, reinvent them, place them in a new spot or, if they are "tired", get rid of them.  By placing things you already have in a new spot you are giving a fresh look to your rooms.

Keep a dust cloth and vacuum handy.  As you replace the Christmas decorations, dust the surface first and vacuum  glitter, pine needles or "snow" that has fallen to the floor.  As you work your way out of the room, it will be clean.

When I start taking down decorations, I have dinner planned.  Crock pot dishes are good.  Chili, soup, roast beef or chicken make easy dinners.  You can put the ingredients in the crock pot the night before and refrigerate.  If you choose to refrigerate your meal, do not brown or add meat until you are ready to start cooking.

Easy soup:

2 large cans of V-8 juice (original)
1 lb lean ground beef or round steak cut into cubes, browned (optional)
3 carrots, sliced
4 medium potatoes, cubed
1 can of corn, drained
1 can of green beans, drained
2 cup shredded purple cabbage (add the last half hour of cooking)
2 Tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons of pepper

If you want you can use frozen vegetables.  This soup has more vegetables than broth and is great with crusty rolls or bread.

Simmer on the stove until the beef is tender or cook in the crock pot on low for 6-8 hours.  Serves 8-10 generously.
