More Ideas for Getting it Together
Several blogs ago, I mentioned working on clutter. Here are a few more ideas for things that can be overwhelming tasks.
1. If you have time once a week, go through one cupboard, closet or drawer. If not once a week, try once a month. By rotating the cleaning of these storage areas on a continuing basis, they will remain neat and organized.
Have a waste basket or trash bag handy. For drawers, throw away anything that doesn't work or isn't needed. For cupboards, look for things you haven't used in 6 months and don't know when you will use them again; decide if they are worth the space. Closets can hold things that are long forgotten. If clothes look tired, don't fit, and you haven't worn them in a long time, get rid of them. If you have lost weight, get rid of the larger sizes as a motivation to keep the weight off.
Tip: I will often clean out a drawer or two while I am on the phone.
2. Keep basic cleaning products under each sink to make spot cleaning easy. Microfiber clothes are great to quickly wipe a mirror or dust a counter.
Make sure to dust light fixtures, bulbs, behind the toilet and baseboards.
3. Clean out your refrigerator before you go grocery shopping. Wipe the shelves and remove the produce and meat drawers to wash as needed.
You will be aware of things that get pushed to the back and need to be used. Wash and cut veggies before you put them away so it is easier to grab a carrot than a cookie!
4. If you store things under your bed, make sure you pull them out and dust and vacuum under your bed. Dust can contribute to allergies. The rolling under the bed storage containers are a great way to have easy access to whatever you put in them. They are also great for wrapping paper; store scissors, tape and ribbon in the container so everything is together. The rolling bins are also a great place to keep out-of-season clothing and children's games and toys.
I keep my extra table leaf under the bed so it is flat and won't warp from standing on end in a closet. Put the leaf top down on an old towel to keep it from getting scratched.
