A Finishing Touch

Finishing touches can add interest to a room, but can also change perspective.  When I wallpapered the dining room in a dark color, it visually brought the ceiling down because the crown moulding matched the ceiling.  I added a rope trim to match the wallpaper at the ceiling above the moulding, thus keeping the visual height.

A thick "tacky" glue was used to adhere the rope.  It is water-soluble so removal will be easy.  Just spray with water, and wash the residue off the moulding.

I also placed the rope above the judges paneling and around the
door and windows in the room. Because the wallpaper had the
texture of fabric, it gives the wall an upholstered appearance.

This is the same concept in another room but a gimp trim (a flat braided trim) was used.

These are formal rooms, but the same idea can be applied to contemporary settings or children's rooms.  A jute rope, a chain, or any other type of material that could be glued to the wall can compliment your decor.
