Memorial Day Centerpiece

Memorial Day is a day to remember those who lost their lives defending our country.   We have parties, barbecues and enjoy time with family and friends.  This simple centerpiece is patriotic in color and will be a subtle reminder of why we are celebrating.

Start with some oasis (a floral foam that can be wet), some red, white and blue ribbon found at the dollar or craft store, a container, florist picks with wire and flowers.  I chose carnations and statice.  The greenery is from my yard.  Our local grocery store had flowers "three bunches" for $12.  I used a clear plastic bowl from a garden center to line my basket.

Cut strips of ribbon 16 inches long and fold to make an "8.

Use the floral picks with wire to secure the loops of the ribbon.  You can twist floral tape around the wire and pick, but I find it all blends together so skip that step.

Poke greenery into the florist foam in your container.  Add the flowers, alternating the colors.  Poke in the florist picks and you have your centerpiece.
These simple tips will work for just about any arrangement.  A hint:  Use flowers that aren't delicate and you will have a week or more of enjoyment from your creation.
